THE THREE PARTS TO SUSTAINABILITY
Functional
We can no longer afford to support buildings and spaces that are more dysfunctional than functional. The buildings and spaces we inhabit must contribute to the survival of our society while performing their intended purpose. A renovation that is functional retools our buildings or spaces into systems that contribute to the survival of our society.
Adaptable
A renovation that is adaptable modifies a building or space into a flexible system that efficiently uses societies’ capital resources; people, planet, and profit.
Affordable
The level at which a flexible and efficient system can be created without undo drain on capital. A sustainable renovation has to be affordable or it isn’t sustainable.
